dig the dirt / dig up dirt (on somebody)
表示：揭某人的丑；挖某人的黑料
释义：to discover and reveal information about somebody that could damage them
They hired private investigators to dig up dirt on their political opponents.
他们雇了私家侦探来挖政治对手的黑幕。
She has come to dig the dirt on her old rival.
她是来挖老对手丑闻的。
dig your heels/toes in
指的是坚持自己的立场；拒不让步
释义：to refuse to do something or to change your mind about something

dig (deep) in/into your pocket(s), savings, etc.
意思是掏腰包；花费很多钱
释义：to spend a lot of your own money on something
dig your own grave / dig a grave for yourself

释义：to do something that will have very harmful results for you
dig yourself into a hole
指的是让自己陷入困境
释义：to get yourself into a bad situation that will be very difficult to get out of
